From living with a very tiny closet in NYC to my current small closet in Dallas, I’ve had to come up with ways to store my clothes so that everything has a place and stays organized. I’m pretty particular about where everything goes, but I feel so much better getting dressed in a clean space. If you are also crunched for room in your closet, I hope these tips can help:
1. Get Matching Hangers. Not only do matching hangers look pretty, these velvet ones are thin so your rack can fit more clothes. The material also holds the clothes well so that tanks and blouses don’t slip off.
2. Double Up: Style outfits ahead of time and hang them together. (For example layer a lace tank that goes under a leather jacket.) This saves room and time.
3. Use Storage Baskets: I don’t have any drawers in my closet, so I ordered these baskets to organize my socks, undergarmets, swimsuits, workout clothes and pajamas.
4. Store Boots: I store boots in clear bins under my bed since they take up so much space.
5. Keep Bags Shape: In order to keep my bags standing up, I put tissue paper inside the dust bag it came in to fill the bag. This helps hold the bags shape and looks pretty on the shelf.
6. Only keep what you wear: Aside from special occasion dresses, I only keep the clothes that I really wear. I take clothes to a re-sale store where they sell or donate the items. If you don’t have space for clothes in your closet that you probably won’t wear again, you can make extra money for new clothes by selling at second hand stores.
