My friends know I’m on an odd sleep schedule. I naturally wake up at sunrise. I’ve become morning person, but it never used to be that way. In college I had a hard time waking up for a 10AM class. Since then I learned a few tips to being productive in the morning since studies have shown we have the most focus in the AM. (And being severely A.D.D. I need to squeeze in all of the focus time I can!)
1. Keep your phone charging in another room: I keep mine in the bath room so I have to get up in the morning to see what time it is. Turning on the lights gets me going.
2. Have a morning routine: I start by grabbing my phone and heading straight for coffee. Then I relax with the headlines while whipping up a tasty breakfast.
3. Walk it out: I try to get in a workout after checking my email. If I save it for the afternoon I often come up with an excuse. This gets the day going and makes me feel productive early on in the day.
4. Make it a schedule: Get up at the same time every day. At first you may need to set your alarm for a few days, but eventually it will become natural to wake up at the same time. Try not to sleep in on the weekends so your body can get on a natural schedule.
5. Have something to look forward to: I try to tackle my most difficult work first thing because I have a better attention span. Then I try and schedule a fun lunch with friends or an afternoon coffee to know that there is going to be a nice mid day break.
Amazing tips. I try to get up every day at the same time. It helps me a lot!
